In most of
the best stories of O. Henry, written in the early years of the twentieth
century, mainly it appreciates the unexpected and sudden end plot twists at the
end of the story. Many stories take place in the city of New York and usually
portray ordinary characters as dependents, policemen, waitresses. His best
known work, The Four million refers to the number of inhabitants of the city of
